Your feet contain 26 bones, 30 joints and over 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. Your feet not only provide your body with stability, mobility, and balance, they also influence the health of your ankles, knees, hips, low back, and neck. Given the weight that they carry, your feet deserve care and attention. Rather than noticing them when they are causing pain or discomfort, let's discover how to build a quality relationship with our feet-one that is rooted in awareness, appreciation, and care.
Taught by Andrea Russell
Whether you want to maintain the healthy feet you have, prevent future foot challenges, rehab foot imbalances, or reduce current pain this series will take you step by step.
Taking care of our feet is essential for our overall health. Neglecting your feet can lead to discomfort and pain elsewhere in the body as dysfunction in your feet can transmit strain or imbalance to the knees, hips, pelvic floor, low back and neck.
Your feet need to be sturdy enough to bear your weight and flexible enough to adapt to uneven surfaces. In addition to walking, running, and squatting, your feet help you maintain balance and absorb shock if you jump or trip.
You may have been told that you have flat feet, high arches, a neuroma, bunions, osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, hammer toes, or loss of fat pads. Any of these can lead to pain in the feet. From years of wearing shoes and sitting in chairs, some feet simply do not work optimally. No matter the diagnosis or concern, the root of many foot challenges are weak and stiff feet along with imbalances in the hips.
The good news is that foot pain doesn’t need to be permanent. It can take time to see progress though it is possible to improve or resolve foot pain over time with consistent care.

I’m an Āyurvedic doctor, yoga therapist, and meditation teacher living in Madison, Wisconsin. If I could convince you of only one thing, it’s this: that there’s a path to transform suffering—of feeling unwell, anxious, or like you’re spread too thin. here are tools that can help you heal, get back to yourself, and remember what is meaningful, and live in alignment.
The momentum of life can pull us off center. We don’t always get what we want, people we love die, and at times, the world can be a hard place to live. We need practices that bring us back home to ourselves so we may stay true to what’s in our hearts. We need ways to cultivate strength, resiliency, and compassion. Ancient practices offer timeless tools that can help.
If you think that learning ways to help you move more easily, to transform your relationship with food, to develop sustainable self-care routines, and to down regulate your nervous system can help you achieve optimal health, I’d love to work with you.
